The Drive
Getting Here From Merced County
From most of Merced County, the route is simple: north on CA-99, through Atwater, Livingston and Turlock, into Modesto and downtown to H Street. It is mostly straight highway driving with few turns.

From Atwater and Livingston
Both towns sit on CA-99 between Merced and Modesto, so the drive is shorter than from Merced. Use the same route and subtract the miles you have already covered.
From Los Banos, Newman and Gustine
The west side of Merced County is a different trip. From Los Banos, routes usually head north on CA-33 or use CA-152 and I-5 before turning east toward Modesto. From Newman and Gustine, CA-33 north is the usual start. These drives are typically longer than the trip from Merced, so check a map app at the time you plan to travel before you commit to a daily schedule. Planning a 20 to 40 Session Course From Merced
For the conditions HBOT is cleared for, a physician commonly recommends 20 to 40 sessions, usually one each weekday. A session runs about 90 to 120 minutes including pressurization and depressurization. With about 80 minutes of round-trip driving from Merced off-peak, plus check-in time, a treatment day can take three and a half hours or more. Over several weeks, that adds up, so it is worth planning before you start rather than partway through.
Some approaches that can make a course from Merced County more manageable:
- A fixed daily slot. A consistent time, ideally outside the morning and late-afternoon CA-99 commute, keeps the drive predictable.
- A driver rotation. Sharing trips among family members or friends spreads out the time commitment, and helps on days you feel tired after a session.
- Staying in Modesto for part of a course. For a longer course, you may find it easier to stay in Modesto for a stretch of consecutive weekdays rather than drive every day. Talk with us about your schedule before you book anything.

Choosing HBOT in Modesto does not mean leaving your Merced doctors. With your permission, we share your physician assessment and progress with them, so your sessions fit into the plan they are already managing. People treated for cancer sometimes ask about delayed radiation injury, and people with diabetes sometimes ask about certain diabetic foot ulcers; both are FDA-cleared indications, and in each case a physician determines whether HBOT is appropriate. - Physician-directed care. Your course is directed by Dr. Rajwinder Singh Bahia, MD, including reviews of how you are doing along the way.
Before You Come
Planning Your Visit From Merced
- Call before you drive. Sessions are by appointment, and your first visit is a physician assessment. A phone call first saves a wasted trip.
- Parking. Street parking and nearby lot parking are available for Suite C-1.
- Mobility and comfort. After a long drive, you may need a little time to get from the car. If you use a wheelchair or walker, or need assistance, let us know when you book.

Is there hyperbaric oxygen therapy in Merced?
Generations Wellness does not have a Merced location. Our physician-directed center is in downtown Modesto, about 40 minutes north of Merced off-peak via CA-99.
Is a daily course realistic from Merced or Los Banos?
It can be, with a fixed daily slot and help with driving. The trip from Los Banos is usually longer than from Merced. We plan the schedule with you before you commit.
Can my doctor at Mercy Medical Center or the cancer center refer me?
Any of your doctors can contact us about you, or you can call us yourself. With your permission, we keep your Merced physicians updated on your assessment and progress.
Does Merced County Medi-Cal cover HBOT with you?
We currently offer HBOT on a self-pay basis and do not bill Medi-Cal, Medicare or private insurance. Ask us and we will explain your options honestly, or read our HBOT cost guide.
Should I drive myself after a session?
Many people feel fine, but some feel tired after a session, and 40 minutes is a long drive. Ask your physician at your assessment, and consider bringing a driver for your first visits.
